The capitial of Lebanon & important cultural and economic centre.
The city was left in ruins by the war, but since 1992 restorations & archeological excavations have began.
Chruches which have been restored within the city centre include the maronite -St Georges church(19th cent.), the orthodox
- St Georges church(19th cent.), also, restoration to the al Mansouri mosque
(16th cent.).
